Mahogany

Grander than she could imagine, the house was brick velvet draped antiques. Mahogany framed beveled windows. But the people paled beside it. They lacked even the grotesque features of her gargoyles. Not gothic, but dull. The Woman, her aunt, apparently owned it all.

Unable to speak the truth, they hid their faces.
